3 keys to a better team result
Achieve more and keep an overview
About this book
When leading an organization that is growing or experiencing a crisis (volatility), I identify a number of factors that are important for getting things in order. As a former sailor and former sailing team coach, it will not surprise you that I also like to use a number of metaphors from sailing.
Sailing against the wind does not work, tacking does.
Developing your company and your team means you need to learn how to tack. And when the storm is severe, it is wise to stay ashore and keep an overview. Otherwise, the equipment breaks, you capsize or the mast goes overboard. Safety above all. As a sailor, you develop a sense for wind strength: for what is and what isn’t possible. More importantly, it’s crucial to actually measure the wind, look at weather charts, and anticipate based on them. The same goes for leadership.
Are you the leader of an organization? Or the leader of a team? Or an entrepreneur? Then the art is always to tack correctly under various circumstances. This is where a dose of experience, combined with knowledge and insight, helps. And it ALWAYS starts with and from you. Because I see you as the captain of your ship.
